Solar Panel Bird Mesh — Professional Bird Protection for Solar Installations
Heavy gauge bird mesh designed to keep birds out from under solar panels. Available in four variants to match every installation height and installer preference.
Why Bird Mesh Matters
Birds nesting beneath solar panels is one of the most common and preventable causes of system damage.
Nesting materials, droppings, and debris accumulate under the array over time. Panel output drops. Cables get interfered with. Guttering blocks. And the installer who fitted the system gets the callback.
A properly installed bird mesh perimeter eliminates all of that at the point of installation. It is one of the most straightforward upsells in solar and one of the most valued by end clients once they understand the risk.
The Renew Bird Mesh Range
Renew Bird Mesh is a heavy gauge welded wire mesh supplied in 30-metre rolls, designed specifically for solar panel bird proofing on residential and commercial installations across the UK.
It is available in two types across four variants, sized to match the actual mounting heights found on real roofs rather than forcing installers to cut down oversized rolls on site.
All variants are black and supplied in 30-metre rolls.
Flexi Bird Mesh
The Flexi is the standard choice for most installations. Its flexibility makes it straightforward to work with around corners and across varied roof profiles, and it is available in three heights to match the mounting height of the array.
Why Three Heights?
The vast majority of solar installations in the UK feature a mounting height of between 75mm and 150mm. For years, the only option on the market was a 200mm roll, meaning installers either had to cut it down on site or fold the excess over the roof tiles.
Both approaches waste time, leave jagged edges, and introduce potential rust points where the wire has been cut.
Renew’s three Flexi widths solve that directly.
The Renew Bird Mesh Range
Flexi 100mm
The right choice where mounting height is low and a clean, minimal finish is the priority.
No cutting, no folding, no wasted material. The 100mm profile fits neatly across the gap, clips on, and delivers a professional finish without any dressing on site.

- Type: Flexible
Flexi 150mm
The most versatile width in the range and the recommended starting point for most UK domestic installs.
Covers the majority of standard mounting heights without excess, and gives just enough additional height to accommodate the kick-out technique on roofs where that is preferred.
- Width: 150mm
- Roll length: 30 metres
- Colour: Black
- Type: Flexible
Flexi 200mm
The widest Flexi option, suited to higher mounting heights, deep-profile tiles, and any installation where additional coverage is needed.
Also the preferred choice for installers who use the kick-out technique as standard, as the extra width gives more material to work the bend without pulling the mesh away from the clips at the top.
- Width: 200mm
- Roll length: 30 metres
- Colour: Black
- Type: Flexible
Heavy Bird Mesh
The Heavy is manufactured from a thicker wire gauge than the Flexi range, producing a more rigid mesh that holds its shape across longer unsupported spans.
Heavy 200mm
It is the preferred choice for installers who want a firmer finish, for commercial arrays where the perimeter length is greater, and for any situation where a stiffer mesh makes on-site handling easier.
The installation process is identical to the Flexi range. The result is a slightly more structured appearance and a mesh that requires less manipulation to sit flat against the panel frame.

Choosing the Right Variant
If the mounting height is under 100mm, the Flexi 100mm is the cleanest solution. For most standard UK domestic installs, the Flexi 150mm covers the job without waste. The 200mm variants suit higher mounts or installers with a preference for a wider profile.

Installation Overview
Cut the mesh to the required length using heavy gauge side cutters. The recommended technique is to cut into six-foot sections and straighten each piece before taking it onto the roof.
The Kick-Out Technique
For a tighter, more secure fit, use a length of 2×4 timber to bend the bottom inch of the mesh outward at approximately 30 degrees before fitting.
This creates a kick-out that locks the base of the mesh against the roof surface, making it significantly harder for birds to push the mesh inward from below. It also creates tension that helps hold the mesh in position between clip fixing points.
Fixing the Mesh
Renew Bird Mesh is compatible with all three clips in the Renew clip range.
The G Clip is the recommended fixing. Its anodized aluminium construction and mechanical screw lock provide a permanent, warranty-safe hold that outlasts the mesh itself. It will not degrade, walk, or loosen over the life of the installation.
The C Clip with Screw and the standard C Clip are both compatible with the full Bird Mesh range and provide a reliable fixing for standard domestic installs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size bird mesh do I need for solar panels?
It depends on the mounting height of the array. For most standard UK domestic solar installations, mounting height falls between 75mm and 150mm, making the Flexi 150mm the most practical choice for the majority of jobs. Where mounting height is consistently low, the Flexi 100mm eliminates all on-site cutting. For higher mounts or deep-profile tiles, the 200mm variants provide additional coverage.
What is the difference between Flexi and Heavy bird mesh?
Both are black welded wire mesh supplied in 30-metre rolls. The Heavy is manufactured from a thicker wire gauge, producing a stiffer mesh that holds its shape across longer unsupported spans. The Flexi is easier to manipulate around corners and across varied roof profiles. Both provide the same level of bird protection.
How is bird mesh fixed to solar panels?
Renew Bird Mesh is fixed using clips that engage the solar panel frame without drilling or penetrating it. The G Clip is the recommended fixing for a permanent, warranty-safe installation. The C Clip with Screw and C Clip are also compatible with the full range.
Does bird mesh affect solar panel output?
No. The mesh creates a perimeter barrier around the base of the array and does not obstruct the panel surface. Airflow beneath the panels is maintained.
Does fitting bird mesh void the solar panel warranty?
Not when fitted using the correct clips. All three Renew clips are designed to engage the panel frame without penetrating it, keeping the panel manufacturer’s warranty fully intact.
How long does solar bird mesh last?
The mesh is manufactured from heavy gauge black wire designed for long-term outdoor performance. For maximum installation longevity, the G Clip is recommended as the fixing method, as its anodized aluminium construction matches the service life of the panels themselves.
